Experience Queer African Voices

The minority within the minority can no longer be silenced.

Queer African Voices wants to showcase and highlight the experiences and stories of the silenced through art. The African experience is one rich of history and culture, but also one of pain and exclusion for LGBTQIA+ identifiers. I hope to bring forward my voice through my art. I believe that a single action can make a difference in our communities, and that collective action can greatly impact the world

About

My Roots

I think back to how I grew up believing my existence to be a cruel blunder; that I was an anomaly meant to be erased. I thought it impossible to live as an African Muslim and a lesbian, that I had to choose. It was through blood, sweat, and tears, that I realized the error not in my ways, but of those who chose to silence me. I wasn’t an anomaly, I had a purpose. But in that realization, I didn’t see enough stories like mine. And thus, Queer African Voice was born.
